7pm
To launch the festival, Without Annette took to the stage and performed a single story centered on the town of Portland, Ohio. There was a gymnast on steroids, a dubious sports agent, a grieving windower, a hospitable undertaker and MURDER!
On The Spot headlined the first show with a series of improv games. We saw polygamous husbands, newly pitched movie titles, a trip to the technoverse and a telling series of interviews with Colonel Khadafi.
9pm
The second show opened with Uncalled For getting an iPod from a member of the audience, Mark. Songs selected from Mark’s iPod (iPhone, actually) were used as the inspiration for each scene, which all turned out to be little life lessions for Mark. Lessons like: “Don’t go to the rodeo.”
Montreal Improv closed out the evening with an improvised epic fantasy. It was the tale of Balboa struggling with his pure heart against the evil Caland to gain control of the Sword of the Mercenary Troubador. Also, the least subtle owl in the universe.
