We just wanted to give you all a big thank you for making Mprov 2009 an unforgettable experience. It’s the exchange of ideas and the delight in each other’s talents that can inspire everyone who participated. While we’re still a small community, it’s events like these that help grow it.
Year by year, we’re going to try and make this a better and better festival. If any of you have comments or feedback on things you’d like to see or problems you may have had, please please please let us know (contact@mprov.ca). Even festivals can stand to do notes.

The third night of Mprov was an epic mish-mash of people, languages and hilarity!
At 7 PM The Bitter End kicked things off with an improvised Horror story. Set in a small town where city folk seem to always meet unfortunate ends, we followed young John and his pet hawk, Tudors in their quest to uncover the truth. Amateur cowboy movies played after hours at the drive-in, and children sliding down the slide at the park ran the risk of being decapitated by a secondary low-hanging slide.
Next up, one half of Parallelogramophonograph delivered a Victorian love story in which a lowly cobblestone-cleaner became the apprenticeof an up-and-coming practitioner of the art of slapping hysterical women in the face (only those who volunteer for the procedure, of course).
The 9 PM show featured Canada’s only fully bilingual improv troupe, Improcrastination, from Ottawa. They played a series of games featuring Russian samurai, a gassy MC Hammer and a deadly battle between man and rhinoceros, all in a seamless blend of English and French.
The second half of the 9 PM show was an improv jam featuring members of Improcrastination along with local Montreal improvisers doing their best to match the level of lingustic dexterity already set for the evening. There was a magical gun that shot marijuana, terrorists demanding penne arabiata and a correspondance between a father in Connecticut and his daughter studying in Montreal, rapidly being corrupted by the big city.
Finally the 11 PM Improv Jam began with a short form set that jumped from action movie one-liners to adventuresome anthropologists to the year 3000. Things wrapped up with a long form set that moved backward through time, showing how a tragic helicopter accident was brought about by a polygamous relationship, which was fostered by unorthodox theological teachings and suicidal weathermen.
